FAQ

What is Dr. Henry Cloud best known for?

Dr. Cloud is a clinical psychologist and is known as a pastor to pastors. He’s also a prolific author whose best-known works are Boundaries and Changes That Heal. The Churches That Heal program is based on the concepts first established in Changes That Heal.

The goal of that book, in Dr. Cloud’s words, is this:

“I want to show you that there are biblical solutions for your struggles with depression, anxiety, panic, addictions, and guilt, and that these solutions lie in your understanding of certain basic developmental tasks— tasks that you may have failed to complete when you were growing up and tasks that bring changes that heal. These tasks involve growing up and into the “image” of the one who created you” (Changes That Heal, 17).

How does his popular Boundaries teaching factor into this resource?

Boundaries are important for a person’s mental health. It is important to be attached to others and say yes to connection, but to establish an attachment and remain an individual:

“God created you in his image to have boundaries, and God has specific ways you can repair badly broken boundaries or build new ones” (111)

“Separateness is an important aspect of human identity and individuality. We are to be ‘like him’ in this respect. We are to master the art of ‘being me without losing you” (113).

What is Churches That Heal?

Churches That Heal is an all-new digital toolkit for churches designed to equip pastors and churches to handle issues of mental health in their communities through a biblical and psychologically sound path of healing. It’s an answer to the lack of quality church leadership training programs and biblically and psychologically sound mental health church resources currently available.

How does it work?

The Church Program begins by encouraging the local church to take their pastoral team and staff through personal healing. This program will also train your staff to administer this healing to others — equipping you to launch a healing movement in your church and community. Helping our communities with their mental health can often feel like such a big hill to climb that we don’t even know where to start. The Church Program makes it easy for you and gives you the exact right next steps.

What’s included?

Resources included in the Churches That Heal toolkit:

  • Church Program: Over 30 videos, comprehensive curriculum, and marketing materials broken down into three parts:
    • Pastoral Healing
    • Pastoral Mental Health Training
    • Pastoral Mental Health Training
  • Regular Equipping: Quarterly live webinars with Dr. Cloud, monthly devotional emails, and more, all addressing specific mental health issues and emotional challenges your community may be facing.
  • Small Group Curriculum: Video series, Participant Workbook, and Leader Guide; unlimited access for everyone in your church or community!
  • Video Library: Access to hundreds of Dr. Cloud’s messages and topical video content for staff development and utilization at church-wide events.

Who’s it for?

Churches That Heal is designed for ministry — anyone who facilitates ministry will benefit, such as pastors, small group leaders, ministry volunteers, and even individuals who are looking to minister to families.

Is the program theologically centered?

Dr. Henry Cloud is world renowned for his biblically sound Christian approach to faith and psychology. For over four decades, Dr. Cloud has counseled hundreds of ministry leaders and served scores of ministries around the world. Very early on in his career, he devoted himself to lifting the veil on the conversation around mental health in the church, well before these issues were a part of our daily conversation. Since, Dr. Cloud has been dedicated to developing biblically sound resources to address the unique mental health challenges of today’s culture.

How much does Churches That Heal cost?

Membership to Churches That Heal is just $349 annually (or $39 per month) and includes all the materials in the course, the on-demand video library, quarterly live webinars with Dr. Cloud, and unique logins for 10 total staff members.

What if I don’t have time to implement this?

Churches That Heal is designed to be a “plug-and-play” resource for you. As one participant, Bonnie J. Maingault, said, “The material is all there – the videos, guides, questions, etc. All that is required is willing leaders and participants.”

By scheduling an hour each month, you can begin facilitating a results-driven ministry program that’s sustainable and engaging for your church members.
